$1 million filly now two-from-two

Signature Scent wins first metro assignment

Million dollar Inglis Ready2Race Sale graduate Signature Scent is being discussed as a potential stakes horse after winning her first two starts in the colours of her breeder, Yu Long Investments.

Bought from Yu Long by Baystone Farm at the 2024 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and then re-sold to them later that same year, Signature Scent made a brilliant winning debut at Bendigo in June before her latest assignment ‘in town’.

Backed in to start the $1.75 favourite of a 2-year-old fillies handicap run over 1100m at Caulfield, the exciting daughter of Written Tycoon stalked the leaders into the straight before producing a sustained finishing effort to score by a length.

Speaking on behalf of the triumphant Ciaron Maher stable, the outfit’s representative Leigh Allen suggested that the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield in August is likely to be the filly’s next target.

As Allen explained: “We’ve done a gene test on her and we’re waiting on that to come back, and that might give us a lead as to what other races it may lead to. But at this stage I would say we keep her around the same trip.

“There is the Quezette Stakes here in a month, but we’ll have a look to see what else is around for her as a three-year-old. But at this stage it is likely to be the Quezette.”

Signature Scent is the latest member of Baystone Farm’s 2024 Ready2Race Sale draft to make a notable impact. Gable (2g., Cool Aza Beel-Herstory) also scored on debut when produced first-up to win at Geelong in April, while Gajira Norimaki (2g., Lucky Vega-Soul Purpose) has twice won jump-outs, the latest in mid-June.

Signature Scent became the most expensive ‘breeze up’ horse ever sold in Australia when consigned by Baystone Farm at the 2024 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale and selling for $1 million.
